Message from Department of Comparative Literature Documentaries on the Move: Women, Artists, and Migrant Pickers 流離光影路: 她鄉, 藝人, 廢城 HKU Master of Arts in Literary and Cultural Studies and Chinese Documentary Festival Series Screening: Wandering Village ( 廢城記 ) Director: Zeng Xi China/ 2015/ 62 min In Mandarin and Henan dialect with Chi & Eng Subtitles Date: May 24 (Wednesday) Time: 7:30pm Venue: CPD-LG34, Centennial Campus, HKU The largest recycling ground in Beijing is located north of the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest), where some 30,000 Henan people live and get rich by collecting the city’s garbage. People live in temporary shelters next to piles of garbage, forming a unique “garbage land”. The film is made up of independent stories, depicting the process of modernisation before inevitable demolition. Director Zeng Xi, born in Henan Province, China in 1983. Her works include Companion and Wandering Village. She has also produced a program Midnight, which has over 500 episodes that interviewed over 100 literary figures. She has written screenplays and essays for newspapers and magazines. All are welcome! ! No registration required.
